6 Pawsitively Great New Year’s Resolutions For Your Pets

2021 is right around the corner, can you believe it? As the ‘year unlike any other’ comes to an end, many of us begin to make lists of what we want to achieve in the New Year. For pet owners far and wide, this goes for your furry friends too! Here is a complete list of New Year’s resolutions to set for your pets in 2021. Walks, walks, and more walks

1 . Walks, walks, and more walks

One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is to exercise more and what better way to do this than to have your furry best friend on your journey with you? Walking your pets for at least 30 minutes everyday is key to their mental, physical, and emotional wellbeing–that goes for us hoomans, too! Daily walks can improve your pets’ digestive and urinary health, joint health, and weight and body condition. Get to walkin’!

2 . New activities

It never hurts to switch up the scenery every now and then and chances are, your pup will love it! Go on a hike, find a new trail, or even take a walk down to your local coffee shop. This provides more stimulation and enrichment for your pup, rather than doing the same things over and over again.

3 . Mental stimulation

Allowing your pup to think things through is extremely beneficial to their mental health. One way to keep them on their toes is by incorporating a slow feeder dog bowl into their meal times. Instead of chowing down on their food, a slow feeder requires some thought as to how to get their food. In turn, this creates more mental stimulation for your pup, which alleviates boredom and lowers aggression and stress. It’s a win-win!

4 . Teeth brushing

Yes, you read that right. It is recommended that your furry friends get their teeth brushed at least twice daily! Brushing your pup’s teeth helps prevent the build-up of plaque and tartar and prevents gingivitis and gum disease. Note: Do not use human toothpaste!

5 . Portion control

Before you reach for that cup or empty food can to scoop your pet’s food, are you really giving them the right amount of food they need? Measuring your dog’s food accurately for the perfect proportion is important to ensure that your pup isn’t being underfed or overfed. The recommended amount for smaller breeds is 1-½ cups per 22 pounds of bodyweight and 1 cup per 22 pounds for larger breeds.

6 . Socialize your pets

It is important for your pup to play and socialize with other dogs. This is great for their mental health to get outside and play with other dogs as well as their physical health. Hopefully next year we will be back to normal so register on our app today and get ready for the new year!

By following these New Year’s Resolutions, you will surely be setting your pup up for success all 2021! After 2020, I think we could all use a little bit of that. Happy New Year to you and your furry friends!
